What if…

What if there were something that could create 1.5 million new jobs, reduce carbon emissions equal to taking 50 million cars off the road, cut dependence on foreign oil, increase exports, save water, improve air quality and reduce toxic waste?

What if it were low-cost and readily implemented? Wouldn’t everyone do it? At a time of wildfires, droughts and persistent unemployment, wouldn’t it be a centerpiece of the presidential campaign?

You would think so, right? Read the answer in today’s New York Times.

Backstage at Kiehl’s with Recycle Across America

These great shots were just sent to us by our Ashoka Fellow, Mitch Hedlund. They were taken by a Kiehl staffer when they did a photo shoot for their Earth Day celebrity campaign benefiting Recycle Across America.

Kiehl’s is donating $100,000 to Recycle Across America and engaged with Florence Welch, MarkRuffalo, Rosario Dawson and Spike Lee to increase awareness about the effectiveness and massive impact standardized labels can have.

The idea of standardized labels sounds simple, right? That’s because it is! Unfortunately, people don’t know how to sort their recycling, the waste then needs sorting at the plants driving up cost and making it less appealing to companies and organizations. We got Mitch to share her idea and why it matters, when she was elected an Ashoka Fellow.

For the campaign a small line of products have been created, where the profit goes to Recycle Across America.
